ACE SPEC Cards

The single most powerful card in your deck

Originally introduced in the Black & White era (Boundaries Crossed, 2012), ACE SPEC cards were Item cards so powerful that players were restricted to a single one per deck. From searching your library for any card to fully healing a Pokémon, these game-changers returned in the Scarlet & Violet era (Temporal Forces, 2024) with a modern aesthetic and even stronger effects.

Power Overwhelming

The concept behind ACE SPEC cards was simple: break the standard rules of balance, but only once. While regular Item cards have costs (like discarding cards), ACE SPECs offered powerful effects for free. "Computer Search" allowed you to find ANY card in your deck. "Master Ball" caught any Pokémon without fail.

Because of this raw power, the "You can't have more than 1 ACE SPEC card in your deck" rule was essential. This limit forced players to make a critical strategic choice during deck building: which single powerful effect was worth the slot?

The BW Originals (Items)

The foundational ACE SPEC cards released between 2012 and 2013.

The BW Tools

Powerful Pokémon Tools that gave permanent advantages.

The Scarlet & Violet Revival

After being dormant for over a decade, ACE SPEC cards made a triumphant return in the "Temporal Forces" set (2024). The bold pink design was updated with a futuristic magenta aesthetic and extending into the rule box.

The new era introduced not just Items and Tools, but also ACE SPEC Special Energy, expanding the mechanic's versatility even further.

Modern Meta Staples

The cards defining the Standard format in 2024 and beyond.

ACE SPEC Energy

A new category of power introduced in the SV era.

Generational Value

Values differ wildly between eras. The original Computer Search (BW) remains expensive ($40+) because it is legal in the Expanded format and essential for competitive play there. Most other BW ACE SPECs are cheaper collector's items.

Modern ACE SPECs like Prime Catcher fluctuate with the Standard meta. A playable ACE SPEC often commands a $20-30 price tag, while niche ones like "Neo Upper Energy" can be found for a few dollars, making them accessible upgrades for budget decks.
