The Art of Simplicity

Yu Nagaba is celebrated for his ability to capture the essence of a subject with just a few simple lines. In a trading card game known for its vibrant colors and complex holographic patterns, Nagaba's work stands out for its stark, confident minimalism.

His collaborations with the Pokémon TCG strip away the background noise, focusing entirely on the personality of the Pokémon itself. The result is a series of cards that feel more like modern art gallery pieces than traditional game components.

The 2021 Pikachu Debut

The collaboration began in 2021 with a special campaign at Pokémon Centers in Japan. This Pikachu promo set the tone for the partnership, featuring Nagaba's distinctive line work on a clean white background.

The Eevee Evolution Collection

In 2023, the collaboration expanded significantly with the "Yu Nagaba x Pokémon Card Game" Eeveelution set. This release featured Eevee and all eight of its evolutions (Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Sylveon).

Unlike the Pikachu promo, these cards were distributed in blind packs (one random card per pack) to customers who spent a certain amount at Pokémon Centers. This "blind bag" distribution method made collecting the full set of nine a true challenge for collectors.
